Two 'experts' will describe six different wines and you have to guess which one is BLUFFING! There'll be other tests of your wine knowledge, between wines. One of the experts is Jacqui Benfield, who we all know from DDWS, the other expert is Nichol, the proprietor of Darley Abbey Wines. There will be prizes for the winner and runner up - so come and test your wine knowledge! admission is £23pp, including six wines and food served at the tables.
All profits will go to Rotary supported projects, including Village by Village, a UK based charity whose mission is "to reduce the needless suffering and deaths of children living in poverty in remote rural African villages", a charity we have sponsored for many projects over the last 10 years. Attached is a poster advertising the event, so please book your places early, either:

We'll be inviting all of our local favourite purveyors of excellent booze to show their wares. All you need to do is pay the ticket fee which will include entrance to the festival, tote bag, wine brochure and all the tasters on the day. You'll be able to buy wine on the day or place orders for pick up or delivery at a later date. EARLY BIRD TICKETS AVAILABLE UNTIL 30TH NOVEMBER £30.00 www.nottinghamwinefestival.com We are delighted to announce that Marion Schoffit will be with Gauntleys in Nottingham on the evening of Wednesday, 16th October, to present a selection of the exciting Alsace wines of Domaine Schoffit. We have had the great pleasure of working with this superb domaine for several decades and needless to say, their wines are firm favourites with the Gauntley team.
Managed today by Marion’s husband, Alexandre Schoffit, it was Alexandre’s father Bernhard, who really elevated the profile of the estate in the late 1980s, purchasing prime sited land on the esteemed, Grand Cru Rangen. The incredible quality of his Pinot Gris, Riesling and Gewurztraminer Rangen de Thann, Clos St. Theobald, swiftly led to comparisons with the other major player here, Zind Humbrecht. Certified organic and following bio-dynamic principles, the estate produces a range of wonderfully expressive and beautifully balanced generics from their vineyards around Colmar and sensational examples from the powerful terroir of the Rangen. Across the board, these wines offer remarkable value for their exceptional quality. We do hope that you will be able to join us! Tickets for this wonderful evening are priced at a mere £30 per person and are available from Victoria Richards: [email protected] https://mailchi.mp/gauntleys.com/an-audience-wine-tasting-evening-with-marion-schoffit?e=de4b55b0a5 Members of the DDWS "Red Team" made a special trip to Duncan Murray Wines in Market Harborough. We were hosted personally by Duncan and we were lucky to get to taste 5 of his preselected wines:

A new wine bar in Derby is set to open in the city, making it the latest addition to a flourishing hospitality scene. Wine Stories is a wine bar and tasting rooms located on The Strand, and the site of former Bar 56.
Owner Chris Barlow only took on the site just four weeks ago. Since then major amendments have been made. These include updates to the toilets, new shelving, and a painstaking deep clean of windows to create a more welcoming aesthetic for customers. Hard work will continue over the coming weeks as Wine Stories is set to launch on Friday, July 26, 2024. On the menu will be a carefully curated wine list that will change according to customers’ palates. World beers, plus spirits including gin, rum, and brandy will also be served. In addition to wine tastings, people can also look forward to whisky and brandy tastings. Chris is passionate about wine and is keen to explore people’s stories, memories and connections to their favourite wines. He said: “Wine is subjective, whether you usually spend £3, or £300 on a bottle, it’s all down to personal tastes. This is why our wine list will be led by customers, who can tell us what they like, so the list itself is fluid. “Our wines are special, you won’t be able to get them anywhere else in Derby. Our wines are from growers across the world. “The idea of Wine Stories is to offer wines that have a story behind them. “I love talking to people, I want to talk to people about wines they love and what they love about it. That’s how I got into wine.” Opening days will be on Friday and Saturday afternoons and evenings. Location: Wine Stories - Wine Bar & Tasting Rooms, 5 - 6 The Strand, Derby DE1 1BQ For more information about Wine Stories visit its Facebook page by clicking here. A Wine Shop has opened on the Alfreton Road in Little Eaton called ‘Bouquet’. They have a range of wines that can be bought in shop or online and they run tasting events locally. They are open Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
